Towards Net Zero

The property sector accounts for around 25% of greenhouse gas emissions and, as such, has a critical role to play in tackling climate change. Put simply, the UK will not meet its 2050 net zero target unless we accelerate the decarbonisation of our homes and buildings.

This is why we worked with the BPF and commissioned research to understand better the barriers and challenges faced by the property sector in the transition to net zero carbon, and to explore solutions.

The research shows that the lack of policy and regulatory certainty is one of the key barriers for the sector, with 9 out of 10 senior leaders telling us that they do not believe current Government policy will deliver a net zero property sector by 2050. In response, working with BPF members, we have developed a series of policy recommendations which we believe will provide the sector with much needed clarity and help overcome the key challenges identified in the research.

On the 8 March we took part in a webinar to discuss the research and recommendations. We were joined by JLL, who conducted the research for the BPF, and our fellow sponsors Greengage Environmental and TFT.
